Setting up Map Editor

First of all you need to download it from here. This file contains everything you will need for making maps.

  • Copy files from bin folder to your bin folder with Supreme Commander installation (!!NOT Forged Alliance!!), usually:
C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander\bin
  • and files from gamedata folder to
C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander\gamedata
    • (these files are just for editor, they are not affecting your game installation)
    • Other Tools can be placed anywhere.
  • Make sure you have patched Supreme Commander to latest version (1.1.3280) (1.1.0 for steam version)

In addition to able place units and textures from Forged alliance in editor you have to copy some files from Forged Alliance installation folder.

C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance\gamedata
  • env.scd
  • textures.scd
  • units.scd

BEFORE YOU DO THIS!!!

Make a copy of these files from Supreme Commander gamedata folder. Rewriting these files will make Map Editor fully functional but it will damage Supreme Commander game.

Copy these files into Supreme Commander gamedata folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander\gamedata

External Tools

You can use any texteditor, to edit the script files. Notepad is ok, but you'll be better off with Notepad++ or Sublime Editor as it features syntax highlighting.

An image manipulation program, to edit/mirror your heightmaps and texture layers, e.g Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Corel Paint Shop Pro, or paint.net.
